A Breakfast Area with a story to tell!
We wanted to create something different, an extraordinary Breakfast room for our guests, so we enlisted the help of Architect John Iatrou, of the Iatrou Furniture.
With his valuable knowledge and inspiration, we are able to present a unique Breakfast Area just for the guests of Marquise Suites.
The main feature of this special Breakfast Area is a custom made breakfast table, specifically designed and created for Marquise Suites by Riva1920.

Riva1920 is a special company that for almost one hundred years has paid great attention to selecting the best materials to create its own furniture collection. Characteristic feature of the company is the wood of reuse, such as the Briccole of Venice, the discarded poles coming from the Venice lagoon, the material that our Breakfast table is made of.

Poles from the Venice’s Lagoon
The Riva1920 intuition of giving a new life to these oak posts was born from the great attention towards the environment and the ecology.
The Briccole are the unquestioned main characters of Venice, which lead the boats and mark the Lagoon low tide. Briccole are transformed into exclusive pieces of furniture able to convey a special emotion. They are oaken stakes planted in the seabed and used to reveal the waterways and tides to incoming vessels. On average the stakes in the lagoon last for 10 to 20 years, then after being corroded by the tides, they have to be replaced periodically.
Submerged in water and tempered by salt, exposed to the weather and sculpted by shellfish, this high quality oak becomes in the course of time a wood absolutely unique, precious, romantic and noble, owing to its historical value and intrinsic characteristics.
Riva 1920 has resolved to grant this wood a third life by launching a collection of furniture made of Briccole without impacting the environment, for it should not be forgotten that wood is a precious but not infinite resource. Once more nature is the absolute protagonist, arousing fascinating and unique emotions.
Using the Briccole, wood, glass, marble and vibrant colours, in an artistic and original way, we wanted to combine the pleasure of delightful breakfast flavours with a pleasing to the eye environment, in an imaginative yet cozy atmosphere, totally different than the usual breakfast areas.

John Iatrou - Bio
John Iatrou was born in 1974 in Athens. From an early age, his toys would be his tools, architecture and design magazines would be his interest.
As he replies if asked what drives him, “I always wanted every house to have something to say”.
Aesthetic formed is very different from decoration that you can just buy. Nothing motivates John Iatrou more than transforming a space into a symphony of functionality and aesthetics. “Decoration is not just an object” is what he says “it is the combination of light, space and function”.
The ability to enclosure practical autonomy into a work of art is what makes John Iatrou and his creations stand out.
In his mind there is a vision for every space and there are no shortcuts. He has created a furniture from scratch just to fit it into a space, just as he has created dividers, drapes or light fittings. “There is no chance I will not solve a decoration problem. The disadvantage of a space will be turned into its design advantage. “
John Iatrou is in love with the variable, the minimal, the game of size and shades, and anything that will combine identities of objects and colours. His every idea is unique and above all parallels.
Maybe that identity of his every creation is what makes John Iatrou special. There is nothing similar in his combinations, nothing common in his creations, yet his work is distinctive and we can recognize his creativity in all his work.
